Originally a working water mill, this converted historic building now boasts a completely refurbished contemporary interior. Sudbury is a thriving historic market town bordered by water meadows with superb riverside walks. Close by is the village of Long Melford famous for its antique shops and Lavenham, the ancient wool town is six miles away. Sudbury was home to England’s most famous portrait artist, Thomas Gainsborough and within a few minutes walk of the hotel you will find yourself indulged in the painters, most valuable, precious work.

Accommodation at The Mill Sudbury consists of 62 newly refurnished guest bedrooms  with many overlooking the meadows and river.  Accommodation is spacious, modern and comfortable, a real home away from home feel. The bar with views over the adjacent water meadows is surrounded with comfortable Edwardian-style seating, antiques and artefacts and is an ideal place to sit with a relaxing drink, light meal or snack.

Millers Brasserie at The Mill Hotel Sudbury is located within walking distance from Sudbury town centre, offering our hotel guests and non-resident diners a relaxing dining experience, whereby diners overlook the stunning views of the river Stour. The rustic yet chic décor and comfortable stylish furniture together with the stunning river views and unique working waterwheel feature offer a fabulous setting for any occasion.

The Head Chef at the Brasserie, has a policy of sourcing fresh local produce whenever possible so that you can enjoy the best that the Suffolk countryside has to offer. We have an extensive selection of champagnes as well as both new and old world wines which have been carefully selected to complement our seasonal menu.

Millers Brasserie at The Mill Hotel is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We cater for special occasions including family celebrations, a birthday, an anniversary or a romantic meal with someone special. This popular restaurant in Sudbury is well worth a visit.

The Meadows Bar is open all day, seven days a week and it is the perfect place to meet friends, enjoy classic fayre or entertain business clients. The Meadows Bar serves a well chosen Wine list, offered by the glass or the bottle, and comprises of both new and old world wines. QUAY THEATRE

In the evening visit the lively Quay Theatre where there is a regular programme of entertainment – touring companies, great plays put on by Sudbury Dramatic Society, live music, films and art exhibitions. Distance from Hotel 0.5 Miles.

GAINSBOROUGH HOUSE

Gainsborough house is the birthplace museum of Thomas Gainsborough. One of the greatest artists in the history of British art. Gainsborough house has the largest collection of Gainsborough work on display at any one time in Britain. The house itself dates from around 1500 and retains many interesting architectural features. Its Georgian facade, built by Thomas Gainsborough’s father, and other elegant additions date from the eighteenth century.  Distance from Hotel 0.4 Miles.

THE MARKET HILL

Sudbury Market, held in the Market Square, is fast becoming one of Suffolk’s busiest town markets. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday along with the Farmers’ Market each Friday at the end of the month. The range of produce is fantastic and includes home baked fresh bread, local pork, beef, lamb & game, homemade cakes & pies, fantastic fruit & vegetables, local apple juice, locally grown cut flowers and an extensive range of garden plants. There is a small number of high quality, locally made crafts and a great café run by the Sudbury based charity, The Bridge Project. Distance from Hotel 0.2  Miles.

TOWN TRAILS

For children, exploring the town can be fun – by walking the Talbot Trail – A series of 14 small bronze sculptures on red posts, depicting quirky aspects of Sudbury’s past. See the’dancing bears’ or ‘blood-thirsty peasants displaying the head of Simon of Sudbury’ The walk takes about an hour and starts at the TIC, where you can buy a leaflet full of short stories. For the more serious minded history buff, there is an official Town Trail booklet, produced by The Sudbury Society, telling you about the buildings around the town, and their history. This is also on sale at the TIC. Very nicely produced and great value at 50p! Distance from Hotel 0.5 Miles.

THE VALLEY WALK

A National Trust pleasant walk from magnificent Melford Hall to Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, walking part of the old Gt. Eastern Long Melford to Sudbury railway line, visiting three old water mills and Sudbury Water Meadows en.route. Return by bus. Distance from Hotel 3 Miles.

If you are using a SAT NAV the hotels postcode is CO10 1BD

From A12 join the A134 Sudbury. From the town centre, facing south down Sudbury’s Market Hill, take the right fork along Gainsborough Street following the one-way system. Gainsborough’s House is on the right.

Follow this road but leave the one-way system when it bears sharply right and carry straight on taking the next right turn – Walnut Tree Lane.

The Mill Hotel is now immediately in front of you, on the left. We have a large car park. 50 yards further on the right.

By Train:

Sudbury Suffolk Railway Station is 1 mile from the hotel a mere 10 minute walk.

By Air:

Stansted Airport is 32.2 miles away,  a 50 minute car journey.
