    Things to do in and around Crewe

     

    ALTON TOWERS THEME PARK

    Alton Towers, is a theme park resort located in Staffordshire, England, near the village of Alton. The resort, which is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group, incorporates a theme park with 7 major rollercoaster and a large array of other attractions to suit all the family. It also has a water park and mini golf. The theme park is open from mid-March to early November. Special events are hosted throughout the year, including concert nights, a Scarefest event for Halloween, and a season-ending fireworks display. Distance from the hotel 19 miles.

    REASEHEATH MINI ZOO

    Reaseheath’s Mini Zoo is situated in the grounds of the Main Campus at Reaseheath College. Animal Management as a subject has been delivered there since 1995, but it wasn’t until 2000 that the department turned into a Zoological Collection. Although they don’t hold many of the species typically found in zoos like giraffes or lions; for these would be too big and dangerous for the students to work with – the animals they do house can be viewed closely. As the collection is small visitors say they receive a more personal experience from their visit. The Zoo opens to the public only during school holidays and selected weekend events.     Dagfields is the largest Crafts & Antiques Centre in the North West. 7 Giant Emporiums contain 50,000 sq ft of antiques and collectables with over 250 dealers on site. 25 Craft Workshops specialise in everything from handmade soaps to bespoke garden furniture.     HACK GREEN NUCLEAR SECRET BUNKER

    Entering through the massive blast doors you will be transported into the chilling world of the Cold War. Re built in the 1980’s it was transformed into the blast proof headquarters you can explore today. Previously classified you can see the goverments preperations for nuclear war and tep inside the lives of all who worked there. There is a minister of states office, life support, communications centre, decontamination facilities, telephone exchange and much more. Hack Green is the home to the largest display of nuclear weapons in Eurpoe! Distance from the hotel 9.1 miles.

    TRENTHAM GARDENS

    Whether you’re looking for a garden with peace and quiet, or fun and action you will find a great day out at Trentham. Open every day except Christmas day. The gardens have matured into some of the finest in Britain, voted BBC Countryfile’s Garden of the Year 2015. There is the Italian Gardens, the Rivers of Grass and the adjacent Floral Labyrinth. At the centre of Trentham Gardens is the mile long, Trentham Lake. Take the fairy trail and keep your eyes peeled as you walk through the woodland, maze and gardens where the fairies live. There’s also the exciting adventure playground where children can tackle the assault course, fly down the zip wire, get creative in the sand pits, climb the nets, test their driving skills or get lost in the hide and speak maze.     TRENTHAM MONKEY FOREST

    Trentham Monkey Forest is unique in the UK, the only place you can walk amongst 140 Barbary macaques! Set in a beautiful Staffordshire woodland, the forest is home to 140 free-roaming monkeys – the endangered Barbary macaque. Wander along the 3/4 of a mile visitor pathway and watch the monkey antics unfold in front of you. The woodland walk is just less than a mile long and there are multiple information boards along the way. Hourly feeding talks take place at quarter past each hour and are a must watch. It is always recommended to take your time around the forest, stopping to take pictures and take in the monkeys fascinating behaviour – they’re extremely entertaining to watch!     DELEMERE FOREST & GO APE

    Delamere Forest is a shady oasis in the midst of the agricultural landscape of the Cheshire Plain. IT is a place for families to let off steam, escape the crowds and find peace in the heart of the forest. Delamere is an ideal place to go for a walk or a bike ride. Whether you’re looking for an easy going trail for all abilities, a hike to admire the view or a bit of peace and quiet to observe the wildlife. Orienteering is an outdoor adventure sport that excerises both mind and body. Delamere offers a permanent orienteering course suitable for all ages and abilities. Go Ape – Enjoy adventure high above the forest floor, taking on zip-wires, tarzan swings and a variety of obstacles! You can also get off the beaten track on board an all-terrain forest segway – Go Ape’s epic forest adventure with a down-to-earth twist. It’s a totally unique way to tackle the trails.     NATIONAL TRUST LITTLE MORETON HALL

    Join a free guided tour of the ground floor lead by one of the experienced guides. Have a wander by yourself or talk to one of the costumed interpreters or room guides to find out about the remarkable building and what it may have been like to live in Tudor times. You can dress like a Tudor, watch a demonstrations, make a stained glass window pattern or have a go at a craft activity. There is plenty to excite the senses in the garden at Little Moreton Hall. With a fine selection of native flowers as well as early introductions from the continent, you can wander the garden surrounded by plants the Moreton’s were likely to have grown.     GLADSTONE POTTERY MUSEUM

    Stoke-on-Trent is world famous for its pottery and no visit to the city would be complete without experiencing this unique museum. Discover how bone china tableware was made in the original workshops and giant bottle kilns of the former Gladstone China Works, now preserved as the last complete Victorian pottery factory in the country.  Distance from the hotel 12 miles.

    ESCAPE STOKE

    Each escape room is designed for groups of 2 – 6. The game Witchcraft & Wizardy allows up to 8 players. With 5 rooms in operation 32 teams can play simultaneously. You get locked up in a mysterious escape room, and you have exactly 60 minutes to get out. In order to beat the live escape game you and your team must solve many puzzles, riddles, brain teasers and identify clues. Using your powers of observation and problem solving you and your team will have to work together to escape and achieve any targets set by the room.     BIDDULPH GRANGE GARDEN

    The grounds surrounding Biddulph Grange have been created from plants and trees from all over the country and world. Woodland around the Victorian formal gardens has been partly landscaped and also a new Woodland walk has been added. There is always something to see every season. It also boasts the Oldest Larch in Britain brought back from China in the 1850’s. Distance from the hotel 11 miles.

    Road

    From the M6 Junction 16: Take the A500 toward Nantwich. At the roundabout take the A531 towards Keele and Nantwich. At the next roundabout turn left on to the A531 towards Keele. Wychwood Park is on the right-hand side and the entrance is at the right exit on the next roundabout.

    From Chester:  Take the A51 to Nantwich. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A49. Continue onto Nantwich Road/A51. Continue on the A51 to the Basford – Hough Shavington Bypass A500. Continue on the A500 to Meremoor Moss roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto the A531 following signs to Wychwood Park.

    Parking at Wychwood Park: With 400 spots, parking is extensive and free for guests of the hotel and conference venue.

     

    Rail

    The nearest train station is Crewe, approximately 5 miles away from Wychwood park. There are direct trains from Manchester Airport to Crewe Railway Station which take 33 minutes.
