Tintern, Nr Chepstow, Monmouthshire. NP16 6SF
Tel: 0870 832 9921 Fax: 0870 832 9922 email the hotel The Legacy Abbey Hotel sits in a prime location on the side of the beautiful Wye Valley, overlooking the ruins of the famous Tintern Abbey, which was founded in 1131. The village dates back to 765AD and its history features Bronze Age activity, as well as finds from the Roman, Viking and Norman eras. Since then visitors who have immortalised its beauty have included the painter JMW Turner and the poet William Wordsworth. As for the hotel, parts of the building date back to 1206 when it was inside the original precinct wall of the Abbey. The earliest trade directory in which it was listed as an hotel was 1835, when it was known as the Beaufort Arms Hotel. The landlord at that time was for many years recorded as being the keyholder and official guide to the Abbey. |
