Staying several days or just stopping over? Don't miss out on what Plymouth and the surrounding area has to offer, here are suggestions for the essential things to discover, see and do.

The vibrant waterfront city of Plymouth has so much to offer. A historic city with a wealth of attractions for all.

The Barbican area is one of the oldest and most beautifully preserved original trading ports, dating back to the time of Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. You can discover the Pilgrims' story at the Plymouth Mayflower Exhibition. Plymouth Gin distillery offers tours of Black Friars distillery. The National Marine Aquarium on the waterfront of Sutton Harbour features the UK's largest
collection of marine life. Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake famously played bowls before defeating the Spanish Armada, overlooks Plymouth Sound with fantastic views across to Cornwall and Devon.

Within a 5 minute drive, the National Trust offer the wonderful Saltram House for viewings and walks around their estate. Also locally we have the National Trust properties of Buckland Abbey, Killerton, Arlington Court and Castle Drogo. Dartmouth, Powderham and Watermouth Castle and Bicton Park Botanical Gardens are also in easy reach.

Within ten minutes Saltash and the beautiful county of Cornwall can be accessed over the Tamar Bridge.

For our keen explorers the hotel is on the pathway to Dartmoor which offers both the wild and rugged beauty of the moors and small picturesque villages. Enjoy the English Riviera with a Devon cream tea before taking in the fishing port of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay; whilst not forgetting the picture postcard settings of Dawlish and Teignmouth.

Attractions for all the family are in abundance including Paignton Zoo and the eco-friendly attraction and rainforest at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Lots of fun can be enjoyed at Quince Honey Farm, Crealy Adventure Park and Woodlands Family Theme Park.

If you have some time to spare, enjoy yet more of the area's natural beauty on either a river cruise from Plymouth to Calstock or the Tamar Valley railway.

Plymouth has the largest regional shopping centre at its heart with a wide range of independent and brand shops for all tastes. A well laid out series of shopping districts, department stores and indoor malls and markets are well served by transport and car parks leaving you free to wander on foot from area to area.

The revellers amongst you can make the most of the lively cultural scene and the plentiful bars which the city has to offer. As the regional centre for culture in Devon and Cornwall, Plymouth is a busy city throughout the year. The Plymouth Summer Festival showcases major national and international events from May until September every year. Throughout the autumn and spring Plymouth continues to host significant events which are of great interest to our regional customers as well as those visiting from further afield.

The renowned beaches of Devon are a must with the beautiful Blackpool sands, Bigbury and Bovisand bay and the famous Wembury beach that has a huge number of rock pools to explore.

The sports fans can watch our local teams Plymouth Argyle FC and Plymouth Albion Rugby.
